VW dash warning lights - Yellow

Yellow/Amber warning lights are an indication of a incorrect function and must be investigated immediately. Some faults can be repaired by you (DPF, low oil etc) but others (such as EPC & glowplug) must be dealt with by your local Volkswagen dealer

Note: Functions and lights are model specific and may not appear on your vehicle. Please refer to your vehicle handbook for detailed explanation of the feature.

EMISSIONS CONTROL LIGHT - Does the light Flash or is it Solid?

Flashing - Is the vehicle down on power or juddering? Yes - Arrange recovery. No - Drive with caution to your
local Volkswagen dealer
Solid - Remove the ignition key and wait 30 seconds. If the light doesn't come back - monitor. Engine down on power or judders? - No - book into a Volkswagen Retailer. Yes - arrange recovery.

DPF - DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER - How many warning lights are on?

More than one light? - arrange recovery. Just one light? - How to carry out a DPF regeneration - Drive at least 40mph with the engine between 1800-2500rpm for 15 minutes. Light now out? - Yes, continue to drive as usual. No - arrange recovery.

ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT - Petrol vehicles only. If loss of power, arrange recovery. If not, drive to your local VW dealer

ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT - Diesel vehicles only.

Light on just with ignition? - normal operation - the glowplugs are warming up.
Light on or flashing with engine running? - If loss of power, arrange recovery. If not, drive to your local VW dealer

ENGINE OIL LEVEL - Is the light flashing or solid?

Solid light - Top up your VW engine using our guide or handbook instructions. Buy VW engine oil
Flashing light - Level sensor fault. VW dealer investigation required.

ABS ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM - ABS system and ESP may not be operational. Ensure normal braking is possible and drive carefully to your Volkswagen dealer.

ESP ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAMME - Is the ESP light on or sometimes flashing when driving?

Solid light all the time - Check the system hasn't been turned off (switch near gearlever). If not, proceed with caution to your Volkswagen dealer
Light flashing sometimes when driving - This indicates the wheels are spinning and the traction system is trying to control. Reduce acceleration.

TYRE PRESSURE MONITOR - Check your tyre pressures

Is one or more tyres down on pressure? Adjust tyre pressures and reset the light by holding the dash button down for 3 seconds. Check for punctures.
Light has been reset and no punctures - possible fault in system. Discuss with your dealer.

POWER STEERING SYSTEM - Has the battery gone flat, been disconnected or jump started?

Yes - Turn steering fully left then fully right. Drive forward up to 10mph. If light is still on consult your retailer.
No - If steering is stiff or notchy arrange a recovery. If steering feels normal drive with care to your VW dealer.
