Volkswagen Golf Mk7 GTD

67.3 mpg, 184ps (181bhp), 109 g/km emissions and 7.5 seconds to 60mph. And, it's a Golf. What's not to like? Well, maybe that marmite red colour.

This is the Mk7 Golf GTD. An evolution rather than a revolution of the previous model, the new GTD takes the range forward where the popular Mk6 left off.

Launching in the summer of 2013 in the UK, the new GTD brings further refinement and panache to the 'diesel GTi'. Sporting distinctive 17" alloys and running 225/45 tyres it certainly looks the part. Smoked rear LED lamps, LED number plate bulbs, side skirts and a roof spoiler polish it off a treat.

Performance and gearboxes

The 2.0 TDi engine will be offered with a 6 speed manual or the 6 speed DSG auto box. The manual returns an outstanding 67.3 mpg on the extra-urban cycle while the DSG pulls off an equally impressive 60.1 mpg. Both boxes will take the vehicle to a top speed of 142mph.

Interior and equipment

With leather as an option, the standard sports seats are trimmed in a tartan cloth giving that classic GTi look. A sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and other tasteful GTi trimmings make you feel right at home. Climate control, parking sensors all round and a winter pack are standard on this range topper.

UK orders start in April with prices to be announced.
