Engine oil - checking the level

How to check the engine oil level on your Volkswagen

Buy VW engine oil

Warning! Avoid skin contact with engine oils. Avoid oil dripping on hot engine parts.

1. It's best to check your oil when the engine is warm and has been turned off for a few minutes (to let the oil drain back to the sump). Make sure the car is on level ground and the engine is turned off.

2. The dipstick on your VW is normally orange, red or blue but may be positioned differently from this picture.

3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe the oil off with a rag.

4. Insert the dipstick fully and withdraw it again. Check the level is between the max and minimum. Carry out step 3 and 4 several times to ensure an accurate reading.

Check our guide on topping up your engine oil if required.
